Two employees were slightly injured in an ammonia leak during construction work at a frozen-goods logistics company in Vorchdorf on Monday, ORF reported. Both were taken to Klinikum Wels.
About 30 employees left the building and were temporarily accommodated at neighbouring businesses. Fire crews said a pipe in a cooling system was damaged during the work, releasing ammonia. The pungent smell was also noticeable outside the company.
About 50 emergency responders attended, including specialist crews wearing heavy breathing and protective equipment. Firefighters also brought a hazardous-materials vehicle.
Crews cleaned the leak site and shut off the damaged pipe. The all-clear was given after about two and a half hours, with no further danger reported. Details of the two employees’ injuries were not immediately available.
