A children’s ear, nose and throat clinic at Klosterneuburg State Hospital has cut waiting times for some operations from an average of 18 months to about nine months, ORF reported. More than 280 children have been operated on there in the clinic’s first year.
Since September 2025, the clinic has operated on children with common ENT conditions once a week. Procedures include removal of the adenoids and operations on the eardrum. Partial removal of the tonsils has also been offered since May 2026.
The procedures are carried out on a day-clinic basis, so children can usually go home a few hours after surgery. The operations became possible after maternity services moved from Klosterneuburg to Tulln in July 2025, freeing up operating capacity.
Children are referred by ENT departments at hospitals in St. Pölten, Krems and Wiener Neustadt. ENT specialists decide whether surgery is necessary.
The day clinic also carries out procedures in ophthalmology, surgery, orthopaedics and trauma surgery, and gynaecology. It performed nearly 3,000 operations last year and 2,189 from January to August 2026.
