Tenant locks suspected burglar in Vienna storage room
A tenant in Vienna’s Josefstadt district caught a suspected burglar in a storage room on Friday, locked him inside and called emergency services, ORF reported. The suspect is also accused of spraying Nazi symbols and slogans on the walls.
The 44-year-old, who was intoxicated, is believed to have entered through a window around midday. Police arrested him provisionally. He is a Polish citizen and was subject to a current ban on staying in Austria.
He was reported on suspicion of burglary and property damage, and under the provisions of the Prohibition Act. On the order of the Vienna Public Prosecutor’s Office, he was taken to a correctional facility. Prosecutors indicated they would seek pre-trial detention.
The Vienna State Criminal Police Office’s Central Branch is investigating.
