Masked robbers attack 48-year-old in Vienna home

Two masked suspects robbed and injured a 48-year-old man in his apartment in Vienna’s Leopoldstadt district on Thursday, ORF reported. The attackers threatened him with a folding knife, and the financial loss is estimated at several thousand euros.

Police said the suspects rang the man’s doorbell shortly before midnight and used a pretext to persuade him to open the door. They then forced their way inside, overpowered him and threatened to kill him.

The attackers took his mobile phone to stop him calling for help, searched the apartment for valuables and cash, and stole items including a valuable coin collection. They fled in an unknown direction.

The man eventually called emergency services using a second phone the suspects had not found. His neighbours were unaware of the robbery. He suffered injuries, some of them serious, to his face and foot, and was taken to hospital after receiving emergency medical care.

Vienna State Criminal Police’s robbery investigation unit is investigating.
