The Hans Bäumler Collection, a private museum in Hohenems, has received the Austrian Museum Quality Seal for the first time, ORF Vorarlberg reported. The award recognises museums that preserve cultural heritage and offer visitors an outstanding museum experience.

Museum director Stefan Jielg said the seal confirmed the collection’s development. He cited its permanent exhibitions on art and nature, its special exhibitions and its cooperation with MAK Vienna as evidence that it meets high standards.

The private museum drew wider attention last year with its special exhibition “Gustav Klimt and Vorarlberg”. Its current exhibition, “Green Cow and Billy Goat: The Big Animal ABC”, runs until 6 January 2027 and includes a painting by Rudolf Wacker being shown for the first time.

The collection also offers guided tours, art workshops for school classes and special tours for people with dementia. It is housed in the former suit-making facility of the Bäumler company. Founder Hans Bäumler opened it in 2019, displaying more than 100 works of art and over 600 natural history objects from his private collection. The artworks include paintings by Spitzweg, Waldmüller, Monet, Renoir, Gauguin, Liebermann, Corinth, Macke, Marc, Pechstein and Picasso.

Nineteen museums in Vorarlberg hold the seal, including the vorarlberg museum in Bregenz, the Women’s Museum in Hittisau and Schattenburg Museum in Feldkirch. A total of 319 museums in Austria have the award, which is granted for five years and can then be renewed.
