Salzburg crews temporarily repaired the road over Müllner Hügel overnight into Friday after summer heat and increased bus traffic damaged its surface, ORF reported.
Work began at 10 p.m. on Müllner Hauptstraße. The city said the road had also been worn by regular traffic and the many buses rerouted there because of the Neutor closure. Since mid-September, up to 60 buses an hour have travelled over the hill.
The repairs are a temporary measure to prepare the road for winter. A full renovation is planned after the Neutor closure ends in spring or summer 2027.
