ÖVP questions €6.9 million property purchase by Burgenland company

Burgenland, ÖVP, property purchase

The ÖVP has questioned the Landesimmobilien Burgenland (LIB), the state property company, over its €6.9 million purchase of a property in Wolfau, in Oberwart district, ORF reported. The purchase took place on 20 October 2025, the party said, after the property had changed hands earlier that day.

ÖVP parliamentary group leader Bernd Strobl said the seller had acquired the property for €1.61 million. He said he could not understand how its price had risen so much within hours and called on the LIB to explain its pricing, valuation basis and who benefited financially.

The LIB has rejected the criticism. It said the seller had leased the plot for several years, invested heavily in it and then exercised a purchase option before selling it to the company. An expert valuation found the property was worth more than €7 million, the LIB said.
