Prosecutors in Klagenfurt have charged a 48-year-old Carinthian over the robbery of a Volksbank branch in Ferlach, ORF reports. He has been in pre-trial detention since mid-April, denies the offence and is due to face trial for aggravated robbery.
The man is accused of robbing the bank on Ferlach’s main square on 16 March and taking more than 200,000 euros. The masked robber fled by bicycle in front of vendors and visitors at the Josefi market.
The suspect was arrested in April. Prosecutors said evidence against him included a DNA match from a threatening letter left at the bank.
The stolen money has not been found. Police discovered 11,000 euros during a search of the suspect’s home, and he had another 4,000 euros with him when arrested. He said he had won that money in a game.
