Fake crypto platform defrauds 58-year-old of tens of thousands

A 58-year-old man from Klagenfurt-Land district lost tens of thousands of euros in a cryptocurrency investment scam, ORF reported.
He came across a purported investment platform online in February 2026. An unknown person posing as a broker then persuaded him to make several transfers by promising high returns.
The man could track supposed profits through a fake online account. When he tried to withdraw the money, other people describing themselves as intermediaries asked him to make further payments to release it. He never gained access to the cryptocurrency account.
After contact with the alleged brokers stopped, he reported the case to police in October 2026. His losses amounted to several tens of thousands of euros.
