The Mariazell Railway will be closed for modernisation work from November 2 to 20, with replacement buses running along the full route between St. Pölten and Mariazell, ORF reported.

The buses will depart from the relevant railway stations or replacement stops at the same times as the trains.

The work includes upgrades to level-crossing safety systems, renewal of overhead lines between St. Pölten’s main and Alpenbahnhof stations, bridge repairs, rockfall protection and maintenance.

The single-track narrow-gauge railway is more than 115 years old. Lower Austria’s deputy governor for transport, Udo Landbauer, said the ongoing upgrades would support its continued operation in the region.
