An 82-year-old pedestrian was seriously injured after being run over by a lorry in Schladming, a town in the Liezen district, on Tuesday, ORF Styria reported.
The 22-year-old lorry driver, who is also from the Liezen district, was turning left from a construction site onto a municipal road when the collision occurred. The cause is not yet clear. The driver said she noticed the pedestrian only when the woman was already beneath one of the lorry’s wheels.
Passers-by gave first aid. The woman was conscious and received initial treatment from an emergency doctor before being taken to Schladming Hospital. She was later transferred to Salzburg Regional Hospital.
A breathalyser test on the driver was negative. Investigations into the circumstances of the crash are continuing.
