Carinthia, local government, Treffen

Christof Seymann of the Social Democratic Party of Austria (SPÖ) has been elected mayor of Treffen after the sudden death of Andreas Fillei in September, ORF reported. The municipal council chose Seymann on Monday and he was sworn in.

Seymann served as Fillei’s first deputy mayor and had been handling the mayor’s duties on an interim basis since his death. He has been a member of the municipal council since 2011 and served in the Carinthian state parliament from 2018 until this summer, according to a statement from the SPÖ in Treffen.

Gerda Burian has become the first woman to serve as Treffen’s first deputy mayor. She was previously a member of the municipal executive board. Josef Pfeifhofer, who had chaired the infrastructure committee, will take her former seat on the board.

The council also dealt with regular municipal business. After weeks of mourning, it said the work for the people of Treffen would now continue jointly.
