Vehicle fire shuts Linz’s Donautal Bridge in both directions

The Donautal Bridge on the A26 in Linz was closed in both directions on Tuesday after a vehicle caught fire in the access tunnel on the Urfahr side, ORF reported. Drivers were asked to use the Nibelungen Bridge instead.

Several listeners alerted Radio Oberösterreich to the incident. Initial images showed black smoke rising from the tunnel area.

Authorities had not yet released official information. A Linz professional fire brigade spokesperson could not provide details when contacted by ORF Upper Austria.

It was not yet clear how long the closure would last, whether anyone had been injured or what caused the fire.
