Police in Salzburg are stopping cyclists with missing or weak lights during evening checks this week, but riders will not be fined. ORF reported that technicians will repair lighting faults on the spot where possible.
The “Lights on” campaign aims to promote bicycle lighting suited to the season. Staff from the Mobile Bicycle Service and ÖAMTC are joining police at the checks, organised by the province of Salzburg, the city and the Road Safety Board.
Checks in the city are scheduled for 6.30pm to 7.30pm on Tuesday, October 13, at the Überfuhrsteg in Herrnau and at Sinnhubstraße and Leopoldskronstraße. On Wednesday, October 14, they will take place at the Guggenmoosstraße roundabout by the Glanbrücke cycle path and at Gehmacherstraße and Müllner Steg.
On Thursday, October 15, checks are planned at Franz-Josef-Kai and Salzachgässchen, and at Nonntaler Hauptstraße and Josef-Preis-Allee.
