More than 1,000 artists will open their studios and creative spaces across Lower Austria on October 17 and 18 for the Days of Open Studios, ORF reports. The free event spans all four regions of the state and features work ranging from painting and sculpture to street art, photography and fashion design.

Visitors can explore more than 650 studios, workshops, galleries and other art spaces, meet artists and see how their work is made. Organised by Kulturvernetzung Niederösterreich, the event aims to highlight the number of active artists in the state and make a wide range of art accessible to the public.

Some venues will offer hands-on activities. In Ulrichskirchen, a village in the Mistelbach district, an art studio will host a ceramics flea market and a live firing demonstration. In Rappottenstein, in the Zwettl district, visitors can watch weaving, learn how a carpet is made and try the craft themselves.

Group exhibitions will take place in several locations, including the municipal hall in Bisamberg and a venue in Wiener Neustadt, where more than 2,000 works will be displayed across about 5,000 square metres. In Mistelbach, an exhibition called “Art in the Monastery” will show paintings, sculptures and object art in the cloister and courtyard of a former monastery. A bunker in Purgstall an der Erlauf and the Alte Hofmühle in Hollabrunn will also host exhibitions.

A follow-up event, the TDOA*tour contemporary, is scheduled for November 7 and 8. Its curated routes will visit selected contemporary art venues across all four regions of Lower Austria. Participation is free, but registration is required through the organisers’ website.
