Klagenfurt is planning a new mobility centre with 386 parking spaces near its main railway station, ORF reported. The privately funded project is expected to cost €15 million and be completed in late 2028 or early 2029.
The building is planned for the Südpark car park, southeast of the station. It will add parking and offer other mobility services, a restaurant on the top floor and a children’s play area.
The project is intended to make transfers between modes of transport easier as the station gains importance with the Koralmbahn and Koralmtunnel, according to a presentation on Monday. A bridge to the first floor of the Südpark shopping centre is planned, and a route for autonomous vehicles linking the centre with the station is also under consideration.
The design includes a ramp garage, lifts and emergency staircases in the middle of the building, as well as a hotel in its southern section. Views and dining options are also planned there.
Architect Peter Lorenz presented initial visualisations at the press conference. The Pletzer Group plans to fund the project entirely with private investment. The design advisory board has discussed it positively, and the zoning requirements are in place, according to the presentation.
