Austria’s Federal Railways (ÖBB) has opened applications for about 100 apprenticeships in Styria, ORF reports. The article gives two different start dates: it says the positions will be filled from autumn 2027, then lists around 100 places for a September 2026 training start.
ÖBB plans to take on about 700 apprentices across Austria in 25 occupations. More than 2,400 young people are currently in training with the company, a record number.
The company is particularly seeking apprentices in vehicle technology, systems electronics for commercial vehicles, rail travel and mobility services, track construction, electronics and communications technology, and freight forwarding. ÖBB is also encouraging girls to apply for technical roles.
Applications can be submitted online. Technical apprenticeships last three to four years, starting with basic training in ÖBB workshops before including practical placements. Commercial apprenticeships take three to three and a half years and are available at locations across Austria.
ÖBB will hold an open day at its training workshop in Knittelfeld on November 5, 2026. The company says apprentices receive pay, opportunities for advancement, access to sports and health programmes, and free travel on ÖBB trains across Austria. It also supports apprentices who want to combine their training with a school-leaving qualification.
