Ethiopian runner breaks three-country marathon course record

Ethiopian runner Fikre Bekele Tefera set a course record at the 3-Länder-Marathon on Sunday, finishing in 2:08:49, ORF reported. Two other runners also beat the previous best of 2:09:15.
Kenya’s Lagat Cosmas Kiplimo placed second in 2:08:55, followed by compatriot Dickson Kiprop in 2:09:12. Tefera improved the record by 26 seconds.
Germany’s Deborah Schöneborn won the women’s race in 2:41:56, ahead of fellow Germans Susan Witte in 2:47:45 and Lisa Madlener in 2:50:54. Schöneborn’s win followed months marked by injuries and setbacks.
Kenya’s Braian Kipchumba defended his half-marathon title in 1:04:28. Switzerland’s Fabian Benz was second in 1:09:34, and Germany’s Josia Nusser third in 1:09:49. The women’s half-marathon was won by Germany’s Carolin Führen in 1:17:56, ahead of South Africa’s Linda Detering and Germany’s Denise Tüxen.
Switzerland’s Fabrizio Albasini won the quarter-marathon in 33:43. Germany’s Marie Brand took the women’s race in 42:00.
A record 11,507 runners started across all events, with participants from more than 90 nations. The course runs through Germany, Austria and Switzerland. ORF and ORF ON broadcast the event live for the first time.
