Camping overnight stays in Austria rose by about 8% in July and August, with Lower Austria recording a 15.3% increase, ORF reported.

The country recorded 4,668,232 overnight stays at campsites during the two months, according to travel and booking portal camping.info. About 3.6 million stays were by visitors from abroad and nearly 1.1 million by guests from Austria. Around three quarters of camping visitors came from abroad with a caravan, motorhome or tent.

Carinthia recorded the most overnight stays, at nearly 1.6 million, followed by Tyrol, Salzburg, Styria and Upper Austria. Campsites in Lower Austria recorded almost 156,000 overnight stays, more than 15% above the same period the previous year.

Maximilian Möhrle, managing director of camping.info, said the figures showed strong demand for camping holidays in Austria and the country’s appeal to international visitors. The portal recommends that campers check pitch availability well in advance.
