Jakob Schubert has become the first person to climb two routes graded 9c, the highest level in sport climbing, ORF reports. The 35-year-old from Innsbruck completed DNA in France’s Verdon Gorge.
The 50-metre, extremely overhanging route was first climbed by Sébastien Bouin in 2022 and had not previously been repeated.
Schubert climbed B.I.G., also graded 9c, in Norway in 2023 and remains the only person to have climbed it. Before completing DNA, he said he considered the achievement greater than his medals at the Olympic Games and world championships.
