Burgenland, hospice care, palliative care

Burgenland’s first inpatient hospice is expected to be completed by the end of 2026, ORF reports. Construction began about a year ago in Oberpullendorf, and the new unit will have 10 beds.

A team of 25 full-time and part-time staff will care for seriously ill and dying people at the hospice. Social Affairs Councillor Leonhard Schneemann described the project as a “historic milestone” for Burgenland’s social services.

The hospice will complement mobile palliative care teams in Güssing and Eisenstadt, which have cared for more than 600 people this year. The facility will be run by Burgenland Nursing Home Operating Company, a subsidiary of Social Services Burgenland.

Volunteer hospice care is also organised by Social Services Burgenland, the Red Cross and Diakonie. The announcement came on October 10, the International Palliative and Hospice Care Day.
