A fire broke out in a maize-drying facility inside an outbuilding in Neuhaus/Suha on Friday morning. Five fire brigades responded, and nobody was injured, ORF reported.

The 66-year-old owner discovered the fire and managed to contain it with two fire extinguishers. High temperatures and initially uncertain conditions prompted the response of about 35 firefighters from Aich, Schwabegg, Neuhaus, Bach and Lavamünd.

A deflagration damaged the roof covering, and the roof structure also caught fire. Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus removed about six tonnes of maize from the building. They found and extinguished two remaining hotspots inside the drying facility.

Investigators initially suspect a fault or misfire in the burner. The amount of damage has not yet been determined.
