Klagenfurt-based software company Synaptos is helping physiotherapists speed up patient records and tailor exercises, ORF reports. Its tools let therapists prepare findings on a tablet and provide patients with exercise programmes on their smartphones.

The newly developed home programme features videos of exercises adapted to each patient’s therapy. Patients can report how often they have done the exercises and whether they caused pain or were too difficult. Physiotherapist Anita Meixl said therapists can review the feedback on a tablet and respond. She said patients were more motivated when they received feedback and knew their progress was being monitored.

Synaptos now has 3,500 customers in Austria and Germany, marking its 10th year in business. The company received the state’s Innovation and Research Award in 2017 and has been expanding in Germany for the past two years. Managing director Alexander Doboczky said the company plans to further develop its support for therapists and adapt its billing functions for the German market.

The company does not see artificial intelligence as a replacement for staff, although it can make some tasks easier.
