More than 80 companies from Upper Austria are working on Google’s new data centre in Kronstorf, ORF reported. Around 800 people are currently employed at the construction site.
Google says more than 220 companies from across Austria are involved in the project. According to the state government, local firms are handling work on technical infrastructure and utility lines, as well as installation and construction. Some components are being prefabricated in Upper Austria and delivered to Kronstorf.
Markus Achleitner, Upper Austria’s economy councillor from the ÖVP, visited the site and said the investment was generating contracts for local companies and jobs during construction. He also said the data centre is expected to strengthen digital infrastructure over the longer term, including for artificial intelligence, industrial simulations and automated production processes.
