Prosecutors are investigating around 400 building and administrative proceedings in Nußdorf am Haunsberg, a municipality in Salzburg’s Flachgau district, after suspected procedural deficiencies were found in cases dating back 22 years, ORF reported.

The municipality itself alerted the authorities. Mayor Waltraud Brandstetter said staff found the deficiencies while reviewing files in an employee’s office and promptly informed all relevant authorities. On a lawyer’s advice, the municipality also submitted a factual report to the public prosecutor’s office; Brandstetter said it was not a criminal complaint.

Some building proceedings were not fully completed, Brandstetter said. Authorities are checking whether this caused the municipality a financial loss, for example through unpaid fees. The cases date back to 2004.

The municipality handles around 50 to 60 building proceedings each year, and some were left unfinished without being noticed, the mayor said. The current review concerns only former administrative employees, she said, adding that all political parties in the municipality want the matter addressed transparently and in an orderly way.
