The Austrian book fair Buch Wien will make Czechia its first focus country in 2027, ORF reported. The agreement was signed at the Frankfurt Book Fair, where Czechia is currently the guest country.
“With Czechia as our first focus country, we are making an important start to Buch Wien’s international expansion,” said Patrick Zöhrer, the fair’s managing director. He said the focus on Central and Southeastern Europe had “a tradition and a clear future” at Buch Wien.
Initial details of Czechia’s programme are due to be announced on the opening evening of this year’s Buch Wien, on November 25.
This autumn’s fair will also focus on Ukraine. Under the title “Update Ukraine”, 12 Ukrainian guests are expected in Vienna, including Nobel Peace Prize laureate Oleksandra Matviichuk, author Serhiy Zhadan and writer Andrey Kurkov. Zhadan received the Austrian State Prize for European Literature last year.
