Two serious crashes in Lower Austria on Wednesday injured two teenagers and a 24-year-old driver, ORF reported. Rescue helicopters flew two of the injured to hospitals.
In Hollabrunn, a lorry driven by a 56-year-old man struck the rear of a moped car as its 15-year-old driver was pulling out of a parking space, police said. The vehicle’s rear was badly damaged.
The girl was flown by Christophorus 2 to Donaustadt Clinic because of a possible spinal injury. A 14-year-old who was also in the vehicle was taken to Tulln University Hospital for further medical treatment.
At about the same time, a 24-year-old from Amstetten district lost control of his car while overtaking on the A1 motorway in Zelking-Matzleinsdorf, in Melk district. The car crossed both lanes and the hard shoulder before striking a grassy embankment with its front. It came to rest sideways, partly on the shoulder and partly on the embankment.
Other drivers pulled the man from the car. After initial treatment by an emergency doctor, he was flown by Christophorus 15 to Amstetten State Hospital with injuries of unspecified severity.
