Granit Xhaka receives suspended fine over fake Covid certificate

Swiss public broadcaster SRF reports that footballer Granit Xhaka has been convicted for obtaining a fake Covid vaccination certificate during the pandemic. The Switzerland captain confirmed the conviction in a statement on Instagram.

The suspended fine is 50 daily penalty units of 3,000 Swiss francs each, with a probation period of two years. It will be enforced only if Xhaka commits another offence during that period.

The 34-year-old said he accepted the decision and took responsibility.
