An 80-year-old pilot injured in a crash during a mountain flying gathering in Krimml is stable and showing signs of improvement, ORF reports. He remains in intensive care at Schwarzach Hospital after suffering serious internal injuries and undergoing surgery.

The accident happened on Sunday as the pilot took off from a meadow near Krimml in the Pinzgau. His light aircraft veered left from its intended take-off direction and struck parked planes. A 56-year-old man standing beside one of the aircraft was also hit and injured.

The collision damaged five parked light aircraft. Investigators have not yet determined why the pilot lost control during take-off.
