Climber dies after fall on Loser mountain

A 59-year-old climber from Lower Austria died after falling on the Loser mountain in Styria on Wednesday, ORF reported. He was nearing the end of a via ferrata when he fell.

The man, from the Neunkirchen district, was climbing alone on the Sissi via ferrata on the mountain’s south face, at an altitude of about 1,800 metres. He fell through rocky terrain and suffered fatal injuries. An emergency doctor attended, but he could not be saved.

The cause of the fall is unclear. The Alpine Police are carrying out further inquiries. The route is about 400 metres long and is rated difficult. The 59-year-old was considered very experienced.
