Authorities warn after possible puma sighting near Munich Airport

Wednesday 7th October 2026 on 14:45 in Bavaria

Erding, Munich Airport, puma

A possible puma has been spotted near Munich Airport, prompting Erding district authorities to urge caution, BR24 reported.

The animal was reportedly seen in Notzinger Moos, a moor in the municipality of Oberding, just a few kilometres from the airport. A district authority spokeswoman said an initial expert assessment suggested it could be a puma. The animal’s origin is unknown, and authorities have no information indicating that a circus is in the region.

Authorities have a photograph of the animal but have not yet released it. It was not known what further steps would be taken or whether a search would be launched. Police said they had been informed of the sighting but had no further details.

The district office advised residents to keep dogs on a leash and not to leave young children playing unattended. Anyone who sees the animal or has information about its whereabouts should contact Erding police immediately.
