Ryanair will station 12 aircraft at Vienna Airport this winter, down from 14, and discontinue 10 routes, ORF reported on Wednesday. The airport is in Schwechat, in the district of Bruck an der Leitha.
The airline will stop flying from Vienna to Copenhagen, Marseille, Tel Aviv, Dubrovnik, Nis, Salerno, Seville, Warsaw, Lanzarote and Riga. Ryanair’s Austria manager, Andreas Gruber, told the APA news agency that it competed with Lufthansa subsidiary AUA on eight of the routes.
Ryanair is also cutting flights to London from Linz and Klagenfurt. The company said the reduction would mean 20 fewer cockpit and cabin crew positions for each aircraft removed. Chief executive Michael O’Leary cited high operating costs in Austria. Ryanair has repeatedly called for the abolition of the 12-euro air ticket tax.
The airline had 14 aircraft at Vienna Airport last summer and 16 the previous winter. Since autumn 2025, it has withdrawn five Boeing aircraft from Vienna while retaining 14 Airbus A320s operated by its subsidiary Lauda Europe.
Ryanair and Wizz Air entered the Vienna market in 2018 after the insolvency of Air Berlin subsidiary Niki, seeking to fill the gap. Ryanair took over Laudamotion, the successor airline founded by Niki Lauda. Wizz Air left Vienna last year.
