A lorry crashed into the entrance of the Trettnig underpass tunnel on the A2 near Klagenfurt on Tuesday evening, spilling 10 tonnes of plastic granules across the road, ORF reported. No one was injured.

The 32-year-old driver, from Bosnia and Herzegovina, lost control of the articulated lorry at about 5.20pm while travelling towards Italy. The cause is not yet known. The vehicle hit the right side of the tunnel entrance, badly damaging both the cab and trailer.

The crash also damaged the lorry’s fuel tank, releasing about 300 litres of fuel. The Nordumfahrung was closed during recovery and clean-up work. Klagenfurt’s professional fire brigade and the volunteer fire brigades of Kalvarienberg and St Martin attended.
