Police search for suspect after 85-year-old sexually assaulted in Vienna

Vienna police are searching for a man suspected of sexually assaulting an 85-year-old woman in the city’s Favoriten district, ORF reports. The woman was injured and taken to hospital.

Police said the woman was on her way home from the area around the main railway station when an unknown man pulled her into the courtyard of a residential building on Arsenalstraße at about 1.30 a.m. on Tuesday and assaulted her.

Passers-by heard her cries for help and called police. Witnesses tried to locate the woman and saw a man flee the scene on foot, police spokesperson Philipp Haßlinger said. Police searches for the suspect have so far been unsuccessful.

Investigators are examining evidence collected at the scene. Police have also released an image of the suspect and are asking anyone with information to contact the Vienna State Criminal Police Office’s South branch on 01-31310-57800. Information can be provided confidentially.
