The deadline to apply for Salzburg’s €250 heating subsidy expired at the end of September, ORF reported. The grant is for people on low incomes and must be applied for each year.
Single applicants qualify if their monthly net income is no more than €1,424. The income limit rises for households with children. Eligibility is based on net income in the previous month, and applicants must have their main residence registered in Salzburg. People with a secondary residence do not qualify.
Nearly 7,380 households in Salzburg received the subsidy last winter. Experts expect the number of people needing support to rise. Whether the grant will increase for winter 2027-28 will depend on the state’s budget negotiations.
The subsidy was €600 per household in 2023 and 2024, with additional funding from the federal government. Since 2025, the state has paid €250. Opposition parties have repeatedly called for a higher grant and increased income limits.
