Siemens Mobility Austria is building a rail service centre in Trieben, in the Liezen district, on the former grounds of the RHI Magnesita plant, ORF reports. The company says potential customers include rail operators in Austria and neighbouring countries.
The centre is intended to support Siemens Mobility’s long-term presence in the region and expand its rail services business. Trieben’s central location could help operators bring trains in for maintenance with less time and cost, allowing them to return to passenger service sooner.
Construction has begun on a lightweight-constructed hall for powered rail vehicles. It will provide indoor maintenance facilities for Siemens trains and vehicles made by other manufacturers. Siemens expects the hall to be completed and operating in early 2027, depending on weather and its effect on construction.
The company is also considering a larger maintenance hall in a later phase. At that stage, the centre could handle heavy maintenance and accident repairs for rail vehicles of any type. Siemens did not disclose investment costs or provide specific job forecasts. Its Trieben workforce is currently in the double digits, and the company said it aims to reach a three-digit headcount in the next expansion phase.
Trieben will be Siemens Mobility’s third operating location in Styria. The company employs more than 4,500 people in Austria and trains about 300 apprentices.
