Several kindergartens in Marchtrenk were broken into over the weekend, forcing some parents to take their children home on Monday, ORF reported. Police were still collecting evidence at several buildings, which could not be used temporarily.

Marchtrenk, in the Wels-Land district, operates six kindergartens, four toddler care centres and two after-school clubs. Police confirmed the break-ins on Monday but did not provide further details because the investigation was ongoing.

Parents initially brought their children to the facilities as usual, but some had to take them home if police were still collecting evidence in the building. It was not yet clear which facilities had been affected or how much damage had been caused.
