Crash near Frösau seriously injures two 17-year-olds

Two 17-year-old boys were seriously injured when a car hit a tree in Frösau, in the Weiz district, on Sunday, ORF reported.

The driver and his passenger were travelling on a municipal road at about 1.40 p.m. when, according to initial police findings, the driver appears to have moved onto the road shoulder while overtaking. The car left the road, struck a tree head-on and was thrown back onto the road.

The boys got themselves out of the badly damaged vehicle. An emergency doctor treated them at the scene. The driver was flown by rescue helicopter to the pediatric surgery department at a hospital in Graz; his passenger was also taken to the department. Firefighters recovered the car and cleared the scene.
