Man dies after 60-metre fall from trail near Walchsee

An unidentified man died on Sunday after falling from a hiking trail on the Pyramidenspitze peak in the municipality of Walchsee, ORF reports. The police are investigating the circumstances and trying to establish his identity.

The man fell while descending a partly cable-secured section of the trail towards Winkelkar at an altitude of about 1,760 metres. He then fell around 60 metres over very steep rocky terrain, police said. Other hikers witnessed the accident and alerted emergency services.

A doctor dispatched by the Heli 3 emergency helicopter pronounced the man dead. A police helicopter recovered his body. The Innsbruck public prosecutor’s office ordered an autopsy.
