B305 closure cuts Salzburg-Berchtesgaden link for three days

Sunday 4th October 2026 on 19:30 in Austria

public transport, road closures, Salzburg

The B305 between Salzburg and Berchtesgaden will be closed from Monday until Wednesday as crews remove a temporary bridge in Marktschellenberg, ORF reports.

Cars will not be able to travel through the municipality during the closure, which runs until 5 p.m. Wednesday. The parallel Salzburger Straße will also be shut. People can still pass through Marktschellenberg on foot or by bicycle, and emergency vehicles will be allowed through.

Bus services will not run between Salzburg and Berchtesgaden. Bus line 840 will operate only between Salzburg and Marktschellenberg. Public transport passengers are advised to use the S4 between Freilassing and Berchtesgaden.

The temporary bridge was built while the main road bridge was being renovated. Its removal requires a full closure because of limited space, the State Building Authority in Traunstein said.

The old bridge, built in 1938, was demolished because it needed extensive repairs. Work on its replacement has been under way for 18 months. The state is investing almost €5 million in the new bridge, which is intended to improve flood protection. It will initially carry traffic in one direction only while work on a canal is completed.
