Drunk driver fled police at 181 km/h in Salzburg

A 42-year-old woman drove at 181 km/h in a 100 km/h zone and fled police in Maishofen, in the Pinzgau region, ORF reported Sunday. Officers later found her hiding behind a building after she abandoned her car in a field.
The woman had ignored police signals to stop and driven onto small side roads. An alcohol test recorded 0.76 per mille. Police took her driving licence and temporarily seized her car.
In a separate incident, officers stopped a 27-year-old driving at 150 km/h on the Alpenstraße in Salzburg, where the limit was 70 km/h. His licence was taken and his car temporarily seized.
Police also stopped several impaired drivers in Salzburg over the weekend. In Salzburg-Süd, a 40-year-old was found to have 1.12 per mille of alcohol in his system and will be reported to authorities. A 23-year-old from Carinthia, stopped in the same part of the city, had used drugs and will also be reported. A 28-year-old from the Flachgau region was stopped in the Elisabeth-Vorstadt area and was also suspected of driving under the influence of drugs. In Schallmoos, a 30-year-old Hungarian driver recorded 1.76 per mille.
In St Michael, in the Lungau region, a 22-year-old took his mother’s car without her permission overnight on Saturday and drove to the village centre. Police found him asleep inside the parked car with the engine running. An alcohol test recorded 1.08 per mille, and he did not have a valid driving licence. Police barred him from driving on and took the car keys.
