Vienna Social Democratic leader Michael Ludwig said there was a desire for change within the SPÖ, ORF reported, as the party’s national leaders met on Sunday.

The party’s federal leadership gathered at a Vienna hotel after a meeting of SPÖ state leaders. Ludwig said he expected them to agree that day on a joint process, but did not say whether they would also settle on a person. He expected a decision by consensus and saw no need for a membership poll.

Andreas Babler, the party leader and vice-chancellor, was widely expected to step down. He did not comment as he arrived at the hotel.
