Premstätten’s expanded school campus, bringing together its primary, secondary and music schools at one location, opened on Saturday after three years of construction, ORF reported. The municipalities invested about 14.2 million euros.

The expansion was prompted by continued population growth in southern Graz. Planning began in 2023, with construction starting the following year.

The campus has 31 classes and more than 600 children: 349 attend the primary school and 284 the secondary school. About 400 students attend the music school. They come from Premstätten and nearby municipalities, including Seiersberg-Pirka, Wundschuh, Haselsdorf-Tobelbad and Dobl-Zwaring.

Work included a new accessible cloakroom wing, a third sports hall, interactive smartboards and a new school canteen. The project was carried out while classes continued.

A new teaching focus model will begin in the 2026-27 school year. First-year secondary pupils will take part in an orientation year, then choose from four areas: science and computer studies, languages, creative technology, or sport focused on exercise, fitness and healthy living.

A fire at the secondary school in August 2025 caused about one million euros in additional damage but did not delay the renovation.
