TE Connectivity will invest €15 million in a new production facility at its plant in Dimling, a village in Waidhofen an der Thaya, ORF reported. The Irish electronics components maker says the investment will strengthen the site’s role as a global centre for relay production.

The facility, which is currently being tested, was designed and built by the company at the plant. It will allow several products to be made on one production line, and the company expects to produce 40 million relays a year.

Nearly 500 people work at the Waidhofen plant. The company credited employees’ flexibility during difficult economic conditions, when they collectively accepted a 15 per cent reduction in working hours and pay.

Katharina Stangl took over as plant manager on October 1, becoming the first woman to lead the site in the company’s history.

Waidhofen Mayor Josef Ramharter said TE Connectivity is by far the municipality’s largest local tax contributor, helping fund projects in education and infrastructure as well as providing nearly 500 regional jobs.
