An animal is believed to have triggered an overhead-line fault that led to a cable fire, disrupting trains between Gramatneusiedl and Bruck an der Leitha on Saturday, ORF reported, citing Austrian Federal Railways (ÖBB).
Replacement buses are running on the affected section. Railjet and EuroCity long-distance trains cannot currently operate between Vienna’s main or West railway stations and Hegyeshalom in Hungary, ÖBB said.
Passengers on long-distance services were advised to take local trains to Gramatneusiedl and transfer there to buses for Bruck an der Leitha. Longer journey times were expected.
ÖBB said the incident had caused extensive damage. Repairs are under way and are expected to continue until the end of service on Sunday.
