Innsbruck lights landmarks pink for breast cancer awareness

Innsbruck is lighting the Golden Roof and Bergisel landmarks pink to promote breast cancer screening and show solidarity with those affected, ORF reported.

The Golden Roof will be illuminated from September 30 to October 12, while Bergisel will be lit from September 30 to October 4. The campaign is being held with Krebshilfe Tirol, a cancer support organisation, during international breast cancer awareness month.

Organisers say the display aims to encourage regular check-ups and raise awareness of early detection. Innsbruck Deputy Mayor Elli Mayr and city councillor Karoline Obitzhofer said early detection was one of the most important tools in the fight against breast cancer.

Krebshilfe Tirol president Dominik Wolf said the pink lighting was intended to draw attention to an issue that affects everyone and express solidarity with women and families facing breast cancer.

Under Austria’s breast cancer screening programme, women aged 45 to 74 are regularly invited for a mammogram. Women can also arrange an examination without waiting for an invitation, particularly if it has been more than two years since their last mammogram or they have never had one.
