Experts from several disciplines discussed new developments in wound management at the Wound Day conference at Klinikum Villach, a hospital, ORF reported. Modern treatments and new dressings were among the main topics.
Wound care is much more complex than it used to be, said Melanie Eder-Failla, a senior physician and trained wound manager at the hospital. She stressed that treatment must be tailored to each patient, including whether a wound produces a lot or little fluid and whether it needs moisture or a dressing to draw moisture away.
Research in the field has advanced considerably in recent decades, Eder-Failla said. New dressings and foam products are being developed continually, she said, adding that both nursing staff and doctors need to keep informed. The priority is to ensure patients receive effective care.
