Graz has become Austria’s largest centre for psychotherapy training, with 140 students starting a new master’s programme on 1 October, ORF reports. The University of Graz and the Medical University of Graz are jointly offering the degree.

The programme is based at the new Centre for Psychotherapy on Elisabethstrasse in Graz. Barbara Pammer, who heads the centre, said its infrastructure and research structure would allow it to cover all psychotherapy clusters and foster exchange with different disciplines.

University dean Klemens Fellner said the breadth of the training would help future therapists understand people in all their diversity. He described the centre and the academic training of psychotherapists as necessary steps for the future.

University of Graz rector Peter Riedler said the university aimed to be recognised as Austria’s leading psychotherapy training centre, citing its research foundations and cooperation with the Medical University of Graz. The article says only Graz and Innsbruck have the necessary conditions for this kind of training in Austria.
