Former Aschheim mayor Thomas Glashauser died in an accident on Tuesday evening, BR reported. The municipality of Aschheim confirmed the death of the 51-year-old on Wednesday.
Glashauser’s successor, Mayor Florian Meier, wrote on Facebook that he learned of the death early Wednesday. He said it was difficult to accept that his predecessor had died so suddenly at 51.
Meier said Glashauser had devoted himself to the municipality and that his decisions helped pave the way for Aschheim to have a secondary school and a school swimming pool.
Media reports said Glashauser was killed while harvesting potatoes. The Münchner Merkur reported that he fell from a harvesting machine and was run over by the vehicle.
His death was the second sudden loss of a local politician in Upper Bavaria that Tuesday evening. Grafing Mayor Christian Bauer, 57, died after collapsing during a committee meeting of the town council.
