Austria Wien’s women’s team has been named Vienna’s team of the year after winning the women’s Bundesliga for the first time last season, ORF reported.
The award was presented at the 17th Vienna Sports Stars gala at Vienna City Hall, which recognised achievements across sport, from international competition to youth and disability sport. The Danube Dragons’ American football team won the men’s team award.
Marathon runner Julia Mayer was named female athlete of the year, while beach volleyball player Tim Berger received the male athlete of the year award. Badminton player Katrin Neudolt won the female athlete with a disability award, and basketball player Hubert Hager was named male athlete with a disability. Boccia players Stefanie Proßegger and Michael Kiefler were named team of the year with a disability.
The 2026 Special Award went to athletes from this year’s National Special Olympics Summer Games in Vienna: Martin Sedlitz in table tennis, Nicoline Tscherne in equestrian sport and Stefan Zolles in tennis.
Vienna’s sports councillor, Peter Hacker, said the city needed accessible modern sports facilities, strong clubs, qualified support and reliable opportunities for young athletes. The city organised the gala with Sportpool Wien, a funding association founded in 2010 to support youth and elite sport in Vienna. It has distributed more than one million euros in funding to local athletes since its establishment. The association is funded by the city, businesses and other partners and supports athletes in Olympic and Paralympic sports.
